Personable Plants

I believe that desert plants and succulents have unique characteristics that act as personalities.
Monument Valley is home to many different types of cacti that have different and beautiful flowers that bloom wildly all over. Spring to early summer is the best time to see Arizona's desert wildflowers, but timing varies on latitude and elevation across the state. Sunshine, wind, rainfall and temperature combine annually to determine precise regional blooming times.

When I think of Cactus Flowers giving off a specific emotion, I think of Ford's, The Man who Shot Liberty Valance. John Wayne's character is deeply in love with Vera Miles character, and his sweet ritual of his devotion to her, is by giving her one of his cactus rose.

We see later, after John Wayne witnesses Vera Miles telling James Stewart, that John Wayne has been building a new addition to his home for Vera, and surrounding it are dozens of beautiful cacti flowers.

By using a cactus rose instead of the norm of a whimsical harmless flower, we see just how this particular cactus rose portrays Vera Mile's sassy and spunky character persona. She is painted by Ford as this fierce hard headed woman, that can take care of her self in sticky situations, just as a cactus uses it's thorns to protect itself. However both of them have a real sweetness inside, that will only be found with gentle care and trust.

I want to use this idea of desert plants and succulents having their own personality, and really understand the reasoning for why they look the way they do, or how they are able to survive in such harsh conditions.
